Nine Ways To Love Paintings: - "….. most people buy art quite simply because they fall in love with it.” She Went On To Say: “In fact, I couldn't help noticing how people changed when they talked about their (art) collections. Eyes and voices softened as they described a beloved piece of art as fondly as if they were speaking of a child or a favorite uncle.” “This affection was particularly evident when people talked about the first pieces of art they ever acquired.” “While people rarely regret taking home art they love, they tend to lament the "one that got away," …. " "It's not every day that you find a piece you really love, … " "Sometimes relationships with art are like relationships with people." "Pieces that really resonate in your heart tend to resonate forever. They speak to you of that time when you bought the piece and they contribute to your life like old friends do." ---------------------------------- Nine Ways To Love My Paintings! 1. Love Them Because They Give You Pleasure! Always collect art for pleasure and not because something is strange, or rare, or a good investment. After all, you have to live with the collection. Many collectors never dreamed that after acquiring their first painting, they would acquire more. In fact, often they acquired their first piece on the spur of the moment. As you live with your art, you will find yourself seduced by its aesthetic and spiritual qualities. You maybe so profoundly moved by your paintings that you later find yourself collecting more. 2. Love Them Because They Invoke Your Emotions! In my people paintings, explore the connections between the figures and the accompanying lines, color, textures, and shapes. The emotion may be indefinable, but may expresses itself in your lingering feelings. Is that figure someone who appears sad or lonely? Or are they happy? I try to use colors and brush strokes to reveal each person’s mood. One of the greatest qualities of art is the way it "speaks" to you. People may share opinions about a work of art and even feel similar emotional responses. But ultimately it is your reaction to an artwork and your interpretations of it, that are as individual as you yourself. 3. Love Them Because They Tell You A Story! Each of my paintings has an accompanying story. You may reach my story by clicking on the painting's image in my online galleries. My painting stories tend to be intimate and autobiographical. I try to include my life and emotions in each painting. As I approach a subject, be it a portrait or a crowd scene, I gather photographs and memories, and then piece them together in my mind and on the canvas, to create a story. Accompanying each painting there is “My Story” for you to enjoy. But, perhaps you will want to make up your own. To know more about any painting (including its story, and its availability and price), in the galleries click on the painting's online image. 4. Love Them Because They Are Intriguing! Whether it is a portrait, a group of figures, or a large crowd, there is more going on than is first seen. Often my people are deliberately posed to provide an air of mystery. I want you to ask for more. I want you to guess what the figures are thinking. Where have they come from? Where do they go next? What are they thinking? 5. Love Them Because They Are Fun! Most of my people paintings are colorful, lively representations, with an emphasis on their personality and body language. You will always find a touch of humor. 6. Love Them Because They Are Interesting! Frequently my painted figures are engaged in a scene that has interesting action. Add your imagination and you will soon be part of event. Though realistic, my paintings are always full of small shapes and compilations of color. Their strong sense of form combined with the bold tints and negative spaces makes them different and interesting. 7. Love Them Because They Evoke Memories! My work is based upon my experiences and observations. Sometimes my memories from long ago are but faint shadows. But others are quite vivid. Look at my paintings and your memories will begin to flow. They may come from childhood, a year or ten ago, a walk outside, or even this morning’s meal. All are rife with possibilities. Using space, time, and sometimes symbols, my paintings tend to conjure up past experiences. 8. Love Them Because They Inspire You! “ … people are often intimidated about buying art because they think they don't know enough about it. There's a certain level of snootiness in the art world. People don't want to look foolish by buying the wrong thing. But you shouldn't look to your mind when you buy art -- you should look to your heart." Again from Linda Mitchel. 9. Love Them Because They Are Decorative! Maybe you just want a painting to go over the couch or the fireplace. My wife always wants to arrange my paintings so that they go with the mood of our rooms. My paintings are full of color and will go with many decors. Updated August 2007. Bookmark my website! - press (Ctrl-D) on your keyboard. |
