"It was difficult to guess her age. Her face was proud, yet reflected a hard life, probably from raising a large family and working in the fields. She may have been from a nearby village, perhaps in town just for the day.
While painting in the central square of a small mountain town near Patzcuaro, Mexico, she sat down near by and was watching me at work. Under the pretext of photographing the street scene in front of me, I was able to capture her image, from which this painting was developed."
Juana, 2007, oil on canvas. 20 x 16 inches. Unframed with painted edges. Original painting: $800.
