"The central square is alive withyoung people sitting, drinking, talking, visiting with friends, or just viewing the activity at the many small tables spread outside the surrounding cafés.
The spring sunshine is warm and encouraging. The Plain trees around the square are budding out to make a green and yellow arbor over the scene.
We were touring France in 2008, and had just arrived at Avignon on this beautiful Saturday morning. So we joined the crowd, sipped our own drinks, and took photographs to record the event for this painting."
