"Bodego Bay At Low Tide" 2003, Gouache and Transparent Watercolor on Clayboard, 22 x 30 in. Original painting: now in a private collection.
"It was early November 2002. My wife and I had been told that the coast north of San Francisco is beautiful – except when we arrived, it was shrouded in fog.
We eventually came to Bodega – where the fog lifted to show us the beautiful bay. With waves breaking across the rocks in the distance and the wide open expance of mud flats, this painting captured the mood.
We stayed just across from where the tide recedes to expose the mud flats. I painted and took photographs into the evening, which resulted in this studio painting. Bodega Bay, Marin County, Northern California."
