"Boys everywhere love digging in wet sand – building canals, castles, moats, or a hole to the other side of the world. They share their plans and ideas to remake the world.

We saw these two enjoying themselves one evening while visiting Avila Beach, on the Central California Coast, several years ago. I took several photographs at the time, from which this painting was developed."
